Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position will lead the Product Development function with primary responsibilities to reverse engineer rotating electrical devices (Starters, Alternators, Generators), customer tech support, and support of existing products in an efficient and cost effective manner.  
  • Perform research and development work on new products or additions in existing products.
  • Determine reliability of Engineering Change Request and implementation.
  • Provide estimates of fallout on all components of the product being researched for the purpose of remanufacturing viability and related costing issues.
  • Assist in other disciplines during all phases of new product cost quotations, development, pilot runs, and introduction to production departments.
  • Conduct a continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance and improve the product line.
  • Work with purchasing and materials departments to help procure and approve samples of new parts.
  • Implement product improvements in coordination with QA or customer request for reliability.
  • Assist the manufacturing department in the development of processes, equipment, and tooling necessary to produce the product.
  • Must be willing to travel to customers or vendors as required.
  • Participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management and recognize the responsibilities of being an owner of the company.
  • Required to follow safety standards. Required to wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
  • Work attendance must be exemplary.
  • Direct drafting personnel in preparation of drawings, procedures, sketches, etc., necessary for the development of new products.
  • Administer and work closely with the production and quality departments to provide a safe working environment and a quality product.
  • Assist marketing in sales presentations, catalogs, and general advertising literature.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Establish criteria for Qualification and Life testing of components.
  • Provide high degree of care and attention to products to prevent damage or loss.
  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Work is performed mostly in a controlled atmosphere.  Some exposure to harsh conditions for short periods of time is possible.
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear.  Lift and or move up to 20 pounds and 40 pounds occasionally. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline.
  • Experience in product engineering, warranty or repair in manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Office Applications as well as email and web-based applications required.
  • Engineering certification.
  • Knowledge of data processing capabilities and procedures, including the use of microcomputers.
  • CAD software skills and/or Solid Works
  • Customer service experience.
  • Good understanding of both financial reports and budgeting process.
  • Higher education in job discipline
    • High level of energy and motivation.
    • Requires the desire to expand personal competencies and capabilities through training and education.
  • Required to follow safety standards. Required to wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
