Primary function:
The Director of Human Resources and Safety is responsible for the overall administration of human resources and safety departments, policies, programs and practices.

The Director of Human Resources & Safety will make critical financial decisions regarding benefits, compensation structures, human capital planning, workers compensation, company policies and procedures that affect the budget and bottom line.  
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Contract, analyze, modify and implement self-insured healthcare plan, track healthcare cost and trends
  • Contract, analyze, modify and implement 401K plan, 401K administrator, 401K independent wealth advisor, member 401K investment committee
  • Contract, analyze, modify and implement fully insured workers compensation insurance, workers compensation occupational physician
  • Analyze, modify and implement compensation structure plan as needed, to establish a competitive program
  • Strategic human capital planning, succession planning, employee development, developing & implementing training
  • Recruiting for exempt and non-exempt positions, career fairs, college relations, intern program
  • Budget healthcare fund, manpower, training, wellness programs, community relations programs
  • Ensure legal compliance, FMLA, FLSA, ADAAA, OSHA 1910, OSHA 300 logs
  • Make fair and consistent decisions based on legal and company policies
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters and recommend needed changes
  • Perform difficult staffing duties, terminations, suspensions, severance packages, shared work program
  • Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate work activities direct staff
  • Employee relations, employee events and employee investigations
  • Reviews all documentation in disciplinary and termination matters before taking action.
  • Ensure safety compliance, safety training on OSHA 1910

Work with team members to set career paths for them that match their desires and abilities.
Job specifications
The Director of Human Resources and Safety will make critical decisions for a variety of issues:
  • Benefits, plan design, cost sharing between company and employee
  • Strategic staffing decisions, new hires, internal employee moves, terminations
  • Compensation decisions for new hires, raises
  • Workers Compensation and Safety interpretations

  • Frequent contact and interaction with all employees within the company, ranging from senior management to direct production staff
  • Work with other Directors on strategic human capital: recruiting, internal moves
  • Training for all staff on various topics: harassment, safety. Communicate with TPA for health insurance plan updates and annual renewal
  • Coordinate 401K new hire orientation with independent wealth advisor. Support open book management practices
  • Communicate with Safety Department to ensure all OSHA 1910 standards are followed
  • Communicate with Quality Department to ensure all ISO standards are followed

Requirements (including minimum education & years of experience):
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferred fields of Human Resources/ Psychology/ Business
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Human Resources field required. Past manufacturing/industry experience preferred
  • PHR/ SPHR certification preferred. Excellent communicator, interpersonal skills, and relationship builder
  • Able to be firmly opinionated yet remain respectful of other opinions. Organized, detailed and able to make fair and consistent decisions
  • Walking, Standing, stooping, bending, lifting, reaching.  Overtime
  • Requiring hours of service that would average at least 30 hours of service per week
