This employee is a self-starter responsible for completing engine inspections and performing maintenance to correct engine deficiencies in a safe manner

  • Determines engine condition by conducting inspections, troubleshooting and identifying problems
  • Corrects engine deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems.
  • Tracks projects and records services and repairs completed including labor hours and parts
  • Enhances department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring additional mechanical opportunities
  • Participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management
  • 5 Years diesel engine maintenance experience or have completed mechanical vocational-technical degree that includes diesel and heavy equipment courses
  • Technical understanding and familiarity with parts and components of engines as well as tools to fix them
  • Self-motivated, determined and great work ethic
  • Willing to accept challenging tasks and works well under pressure
  • Attention to detail and good documentation skills
  • Trouble-shooting skills to identify problems and figure out solutions
  • Must have strong commitment to safety, clean work areas and display positive behaviors that support the company’s goals and objectives
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Mechanical background with wide variety of engines and equipment
  • Knowledge and experience of ship equipment including lifts and fork trucks
Work is performed mostly in a controlled atmosphere.  Some exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.  This employee will be required to demonstrate continued knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and requirements.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Physical effort requirements consist of regular lifting, pushing and pulling material frequently up to 50 pounds.  The operator will request assistance from another operator or utilize provided lifting equipment.  Standing/sitting 20%, walking 80%.
