Accounting is a large field consisting of a variety of practices, including financial auditing and tax accounting. Kitty Hawk Kites Internship Program gives participants exposure to various practices to assist them in choosing a field to pursue professionally. Kitty Hawk Kites is a leading adventure, retail and restaurant company, founded in 1974 by John Harris, a pioneer in hang gliding, to provide instruction, products and service for a burgeoning new sport. Kitty Hawk Kites has reinvented itself through the years and we are now a dynamic organization of over 300 recreation, retail, restaurant and property management professionals working together to achieve our purpose: Teach the World to Fly.

Responsibilities include:

-Match inventory receiving documents to invoices

-Verifying that received cost and invoice cost match

-Check the receiving for any shortages or overages in quantity from invoice

-Report any shortages, overages or cost differences immediately to manager to be reviewed and resolved

-Once invoices are matched, process them in the inventory management/accounting software and file in the open payables file for payment

-Constantly review invoices not matched to receiving for due and discount dates. Notify manager of invoices that are coming due that have not been matched

-Maintain concessionaires spreadsheet

-Assist in processing of daily cash sheets

-Filing

-Maintain insurance binders

-Assist in receiving inventory, when necessary

-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

-Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills 

-Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Microsoft Excel

-Proficient in using a calculator, copier and computer

-Ability to work well with others

-Organized with basic accounting knowledge

The Accounting office is very busy. All interns should be hard working and self-motivated. It is very important for all interns to be honest, dependable, organized and possess the ability to pay great attention to detail. All interns must have a positive attitude and be able to work under pressure in a fast paced atmosphere and be able to work past your scheduled shift, if needed. Kitty Hawk Kites is looking for someone whose interest is in a career in accounting, either public accounting or private industry, but accounting should be your main focus if you take this position.

Education

Rising Junior or Senior pursuing BS Degree in Accounting

Internships may begin as early as February and can run as late as Mid August each year.
