Overview:
The Shop Labour is a vital team member responsible for efficiently handling, servicing, and upkeep of equipment supporting our operations. As part of the role, you will manage the pickup and return of equipment to and from various job sites, ensuring that all equipment is in the best condition before being dispatched and upon its return. You will also help maintain the yard, keeping it organized, safe, and functional throughout the year.

This position may involve coordinating deliveries and pickups, helping with the loading and unloading equipment, and providing light mechanical services when needed. Safety and communication are top priorities, and you’ll need to be proactive in ensuring all processes meet safety guidelines and company standards.

This role is ideal for someone with a mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to adapt to varying job conditions. You will play a key role in ensuring smooth equipment operations and supporting the field teams in meeting their project goals.

Duties:

Equipment Management

  • Facilitate the pickup and return of equipment to/from job sites, coordinating with drivers and on-site personnel to ensure prompt delivery and retrieval.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment before it is dispatched and upon return, find any missing, damaged, or malfunctioning parts.
  • Document any damage, loss, or maintenance issues clearly and accurately, keeping up-to-date records for each piece of equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment meets the required specifications and safety standards before leaving the yard.

Deliveries and Transportation

  • Help in the loading and unloading of equipment and materials from vehicles.
  • Drive company vehicles for deliveries to and from job sites as needed, adhering to all traffic laws and safety protocols.
  • Perform minor field repairs or adjustments to equipment when necessary to minimize downtime.

Yard Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the yard, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly and the area is free of hazards.
  • Conduct seasonal yard maintenance, including snow removal, salting walkways, or landscaping tasks to keep a safe environment.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of tools, parts, and consumables, restocking as needed and reporting any shortages to the supervisor.

Equipment Servicing and Repairs

  • Perform basic servicing and minor repairs on mechanical equipment, such as routine maintenance or small part replacements.
  • Help the mechanics or service technicians with more complex repair tasks when necessary.
  • Ensure that all maintenance is done in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and company safety standards.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures to support a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Conduct safety checks on all equipment prior to it leaving the yard.
  • Report any safety concerns, accidents, or incidents at once to the supervisor.

Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred but not needed).
  • Experience with construction, industrial, or mechanical tools is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a yard or warehouse environment is an asset.
  • Some experience in mechanical equipment repair or servicing is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for documentation and inventory purposes.
  • General computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn about various tools and machinery.
  • A valid DZ license
  • Any certifications in forklift operation, First Aid, or equipment servicing would be an advantage.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving heavy equipment (50 pounds or more), bending, squatting, crouching, and reaching.
  • Must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, including extreme heat or cold, rain, and snow.
  • The position requires prolonged standing, walking, and manual handling of equipment.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
