Project Director
The Project Director is responsible for overseeing and managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in project management, construction processes, and team coordination. They will direct, coordinate, and oversee the planning, administration, staffing, operations, and finances of major project(s). They will also ensure that the goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within a prescribed time frame and funding parameters. The Project Director mitigates any risks and ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Project Director
The Project Director is responsible for overseeing and managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in project management, construction processes, and team coordination. How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:- Develop and implement overall project strategies in collaboration with senior management.
- Create comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate project viability.
- Oversee master scheduling, ensuring risks and opportunities are accounted for, and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, obtaining necessary permits and approvals.
- Lead, mentor, and manage cross-functional teams, including project managers, site supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Oversee the preparation and execution of safety, environmental, and quality programs, promoting a culture of safety and excellence.
- Develop risk management strategies, monitor project performance, benchmarking efficiency and effectiveness, and implement mitigation measures promptly to minimize impact on project delivery.
- Oversee project management and site supervision, stepping in to assume direct roles as needed based on team capabilities.
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to ISO procedures.
- Develop and manage project budgets, monitoring expenditures to ensure financial accountability.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, addressing higher-level issues and resolving disputes.
- Provide regular financial and project status reports to senior management, including cost forecasting and variance analysis.
- Lead monthly billing projections, cost accrual reviews, and project close-out processes, including final documentation and evaluations.
- Represent the organization in client and consultant meetings, fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders, including owners, engineers, architects, and trades, to address issues promptly and maintain project momentum.
- Promote company initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals across projects.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and conduct post-project evaluations to drive future project success.
- Manage strategic business development, contribute to project estimation, and grow long-term client relationships while capitalizing on partnership opportunities.
- May promote projects through speaking engagements at industry conferences and involvement in local business organizations, as well as network with local, state, and national agencies for future program development and research grant funding sources.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in tunnel construction, with a proven track record in large-diameter and complex tunneling projects.
- Expertise in mechanized tunneling methods (Slurry TBM, EPB) as well as mined tunnels and underground structures.
- Expertise with heavy civil construction methodologies. Experience across a variety of sectors including Airports, Transit and Roads and Water Distribution.
- Demonstrated success in managing multimillion/billion-dollar projects, with a focus on performance optimization and engineering innovation.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing large multidisciplinary teams and fostering professional growth.
- Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, project controls, and safety management systems.
- Exceptional client-facing skills with the ability to build robust relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Proactive, results-driven mindset with strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- International project experience or experience leading joint-venture projects.
Working Conditions:
- Site-based position. When on site, personal protective equipment (i.e. hard hat, safety boots) required at all times.
