Estimating Manager
 
The Estimating Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the estimating process including allocation of staff resources,  pricing the proposed work,  assessing and mitigating risk,  forecasting expenses, and coordinating with project teams to ensure financial efficiency.


How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to develop bid strategies to mitigate risk and ensure a successful bid. 
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Oversee and prepare when required detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Participate in the post tender/submission process. 
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of the estimating team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Review bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accuracy and completeness of their proposals.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to develop cost-effective solutions at the project implementation stage.
  • Research and evaluate subcontractors based on price, quality and service. 
  • Maintain and update a database of historical cost data to increase accuracy of future estimates.
  • Lead, coach, develop and motivate direct reports. Ensure that performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage team morale ensuring that the project team is working cohesively and address issues in a timely manner.

Education and Experience: 
  • Post Secondary Education in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction estimating Heavy Civil projects including Infrastructure and Rail. 
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methodology.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, and labour costs.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multitask.
  • Prior experience with coaching and developing staff.
