The Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements Project is a significant undertaking by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to expand and modernize Bloor-Yonge station – Canada’s busiest subway hub. This initiative is focused on meeting both current and future ridership needs by improving the station’s efficiency, capacity, and accessibility.
The Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture (KMJV) is committed to transforming the station to enable faster, more reliable, and more comfortable travel throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The project will deliver upgraded facilities, contributing to a safer, cleaner, and higher-capacity subway system for passengers.

Construction Director
The Construction Director will be responsible for overall construction strategy, execution, and performance, coordinating closely with design, engineering, owner, and contractor partners to successfully deliver the work.
How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Construction Leadership & Delivery
- Provide overall leadership for construction activities as the project transitions from progressive design into construction.
- Develop and execute construction strategies, methodologies, phasing plans, and site logistics for work in a highly constrained, operational rail environment.
- Lead construction planning, mobilization, and sequencing to minimize impacts to live transit operations.
- Oversee construction progress against schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
Interface & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary construction interface with the Owner, TTC operations, design teams, contractors, and third‑party stakeholders.
- Coordinate design‑construction integration, ensuring constructability, risk mitigation, and alignment with project objectives.
- Manage interfaces with utilities, third‑party agencies, and adjacent projects.
Risk, Safety & Performance Management
- Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with rail safety, transit authority, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and proactively manage construction risks, claims exposure, and change management.
- Oversee quality assurance/quality control programs and performance reporting.
Team & Contractor Oversight
- Lead, mentor, and manage construction management teams, superintendents, and discipline leads.
- Oversee contractor performance, procurement coordination, and construction contract administration.
- Support dispute resolution and commercial management in collaboration with commercial and legal teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 15–20 years of progressive experience in construction management, with major transit, rail, or underground infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated leadership experience on large, complex mega‑projects (stations, tunnels, rail systems, or active transit facilities).
- Strong understanding of progressive design, design development, and transition to construction.
- Proven experience working within live rail/transit environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management, leadership, and decision‑making skills.
- Experience working on station projects preferred, experience working on underground / underpinning / SEM works preferred.
- Experience on TTC, ONxpress, Metrolinx, or comparable North American transit projects is an asset.
- Experience with underground works, station construction, or complex urban sites is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as P.Eng., PMP, Gold Seal, or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Experience working within collaborative delivery models (e.g., Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, CMGC) is an asset.
