Construction Director

The Construction Director will be responsible for overseeing major transit and underground construction works, including projects delivered in live operating environments. The Construction Director will be accountable for safe, on-time, and on-budget execution, while driving strong client relationships, operational excellence, and strategic project outcomes.

How will you contribute to the team? 

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following: 

Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Lead the construction delivery of large, complex infrastructure projects from design through to completion
  • Ensure all work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
  • Drive constructability input during design (30%–100%) and ensure seamless transition into construction
  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution, ensuring proactive risk identification and resolution

Team Leadership & Development
  • Build, structure, and lead high-performing project teams
  • Provide mentorship and development opportunities across all levels of the project team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders
  • Act as a senior representative of KMJV, managing expectations and resolving complex issues
  • Coordinate effectively with internal business units and project partners

Commercial & Financial Oversight
  • Support cost control, forecasting, and financial performance of projects
  • Ensure robust contract compliance and change management processes
  • Drive performance improvements to achieve or exceed financial targets

Operational Excellence
  • Promote best practices in health, safety, and environmental performance
  • Champion innovation, constructability, and LEAN construction methods
  • Ensure effective project controls, reporting, and documentation

Strategic Contribution
  • Contribute to bid development, project execution strategies, and business planning initiatives
  • Support the growth of KMJV’s capabilities and delivery model
  • Strengthen supply chain partnerships and resource planning strategies

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum 15–20 years of progressive experience in construction management, with major transit, rail, or underground infrastructure projects.
  • Degree or accreditation in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Extensive experience delivering major infrastructure or transit projects, ideally in urban environments
  • Proven leadership experience managing large, multidisciplinary construction teams
  • Strong experience with design-build and collaborative delivery models (e.g., alliances, target cost contracts)
  • Experience working on projects such as:
    • Underground stations, tunnels, or rail infrastructure
    • Live operating environments with minimal disruption
    • Complex urban builds requiring stakeholder coordination
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, constructability, and project controls
  • Knowledge of Ontario regulatory, permitting, and approval processes is an asset
