Job Title: Cline Cellars Harvest Lab Intern
Status: Hourly Seasonal Worker

Position reports to Production Winemaker.

We are in search of an experienced Laboratory intern for our 2022 harvest! This role will start early August with 40hrs a week increasing to 60+hrs during the peak of harvest in September, October, and November. Work will include evenings and weekends.

Wine industry experience not required if the right candidate has other lab experience.  One or two harvests would be a great plus! 

The Harvest Lab Intern at Cline Family Cellars and Jacuzzi Family Vineyards will have the opportunity to work with a large range of Italian and French varietals with exposure to different winemaking styles and techniques.

This is a hands-on position including:
  • Vineyard grape sampling and processing for analysis, and careful record keeping of vineyard grape maturity data.
  • Measuring and preparing additions for tanks and ferments.
  • Yeast rehydration for inoculations, including the very important care and feeding of yeastie beasties!
  • Inoculation with Malolactic Bacteria for secondary fermentations.
  • Inventory management and record keeping of dry goods for additions.
  • Assist with routine analyses of juice, lees, and wine using standard lab equipment including an Autotitrator, Anton Paar DMA and Alcolyzer.
  • Sampling from wine tanks/barrels.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assisting the cellar in barrel cleaning and filling.

We are looking for individuals with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and who can integrate with our established cellar team.  Attention to detail, efficient and accurate analysis and reporting of results is critical.  Accommodation is available at a nearby Vineyard to rent for applicants from out of state.  You will need a reliable vehicle to get to work and visit vineyards, mileage for vineyard visits and will be compensated.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Enology, Chemistry, or similar field preferred; current students accepted!
  • Computer literacy (spreadsheet, database, email and word processing programs)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and work well with other employees
  • Must be available to work from mid-August through mid-November
  • Have a reliable vehicle for visiting vineyards
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Must be able to climb stairs, stoop, bend, and lift
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work outdoors
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Be eligible to work legally in the US
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Bonus Skills:
  • Previous harvest/winery or vineyard experience
  • Spanish proficiency
  • Excitement for wine and food!
