SUMMARY
The Viticulturist provides strategic and technical expertise to the vineyard and winemaking teams to ensure production of high-quality grapes from throughout our Sonoma and California Vineyards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Strategic and Technical direction in the redevelopment of Cline owned and managed vineyards.
  • Develop and manage capital and production budgets.
  • Serve as vineyard liaison with Winemaking and Senior Management teams.
  • Monitor vine health in estate vineyards.
  • Create pest management, fertility and irrigation plans.
  • Track phenological development, and direct maturity sampling.
  • Collect and input data and manage viticultural database software.
  • Sample plant tissue, soil and irrigation water, etc. with required frequency.
  • Report pesticide use to Ag Commissioner’s Offices.
  • Audit quality and efficiency of farm labor contractors.
  • Collect data for use in crop estimation; bud analysis, shoot counts, cluster counts, cluster weights.
  • Develop yield targets, and track and communicate crop estimates.
  • Perform statistical and graphic analyses using Excel or other appropriate statistical software
  • Schedule harvesting and trucking.
  • Create and maintain maps of vineyards.
  • Create reports for use by Senior Management and/or Winemaking Team as needed.
  • Uphold CSWGA sustainable certifications and others as necessary.
  • Take-on various projects as needed to support Vineyard Manager and Director of Winemaking and Viticulture.
  • Represent company by supporting industry organizations, attending industry events and serving as an ambassador for various wine brands to consumers, distributors, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Language: Bilingual: English and Spanish.
  • Technology: Experience with or ability to learn and use: PAGO, Cal Ag Permits, Excel and technologically competent
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture & Enology or a related field from a 4-year college or university required.
  • Current, valid Driver’s License, insurable driving record.
  • Maintains personal Pesticide Operators License (PAC and/or QAL).

Physical Demands
  • Heavy physical activity performing regular strenuous activities, including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, squatting, and other motions.
  • Stability and balance adequate for navigating inclines, declines and uneven terrain. Requires lifting and moving some objects.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, grasp, hold, handle items, and work with the fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. 
  • Clear vision (close and distant), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Hearing adequate for working safety around machinery, vehicles, and other equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an environment that is outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions, such as cold, fog, rain, heat, dust, wind, sun, etc.
