SUMMARY
This position will assist in all crush operations, barrel work, wine movement, bottling preparation, cellar sanitation, cellar organization and special projects. This position may also provide assistance in the lab depending on qualifications/experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs wine transfers, including racking, filling barrels, and blending.
- Operates crush equipment during harvest.
- Assists with bottling.
- Executes cellar work orders.
- Works under supervision in the lab.
- Helps to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient winery.
- May assist in the training and direction of less skilled workers.
- Perform routine operation of pumps and filters to rack, transfer and clarify juice and wine.
- Collect wine samples for laboratory analysis.
- Cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and cellar facility.
- Enter accurate and detailed bulk inventory information on work orders.
- Perform all barrel processing including receiving, prepping, filling, topping, cleaning/sanitation and inventory.
- Operate grape processing equipment including crusher/destemmer, electronic sorter, conveyors and presses.
- Conduct monthly safety and maintenance checks for fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, 1st aid kits, contact lists, emergency lights and other areas that may require such checks.
- Work shifts, overtime and weekends particularly from August 1st to October 31st.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills?
- Committed to continuous improvement of winery operations
- Able to work a flexible schedule as needed, including extra hours during harvest
- Experience operating winery equipment
- Effective communication
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years winery cellar experience
- Ability to drive a forklift and become forklift certified
Physical Demands
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
- Ability to carry up to 50 pounds over moderate distances.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, reach, crawl and walk.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Identify and distinguish colors.
- Ability to pull or push objects over moderate distances.
