Role Summary
The Lead Sommelier is responsible for assisting in the curation of restaurant wine lists in collaboration with the Tavern General Manager and Wine Director. The Lead Sommelier will help manage the beverage team, maintain an accurate list, manage inventory, organize the cellar and work with the restaurant management team to ensure wine service and list are to Mattei’s and Auberge Resorts Collection standards.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this position are:
  • Advise guests on wines based on taste preferences/knowledgeably recommend wine pairings.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of wines, other beverages and supplies.
  • Order supplies according to outlet par and within established budget.
  • Educate fellow team members on proper wine service including pour levels, proper storage, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate beverage cost by managing purchasing and requisitioning.
  • Train employees on wine and beverage service and knowledge.
  • Enforce proper beverage service standards of all employees during service.
  • Direct and engage in wine service during restaurant service hours.
  • Maintain clean, error-free wine lists by constantly updating and reprinting.
  • Maintain a level of professionalism that will drive repeat guest patronage.
  • Anticipate the guests' needs and respond appropriately with a sense of urgency.
  • Work as a team member, assisting all guests' and employees' needs and inquiries.
  • Effectively communicate with management, chefs and culinary staff in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and or other employees.
  • Obtain and maintain position-specific licensing.
  • Supervising and managing Sommeliers.
  • Being aware of all bookings and any special guest requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • At least three years of beverage or sommelier experience.
  • Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier or WSET equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of wines, other beverages and proper service.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain full knowledge and understanding of company and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Responsible Beverage certification
  • ServSafe certification or equivalent
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior luxury hotel experience
$24.00/hour
