Role Summary
The Maitre d' is a key position and imperative to driving business into the restaurant. The Maitre d' is responsible for coordinating and managing all reservations, dining room seating, guest assistance, and the flow of guests in and out of the restaurant. Hospitality and communication skills are necessary. The
Maitre d' is ultimately responsible for managing all aspects of the front door, guest arrival, seating and departure, host training, and operational procedures. The Maitre d' will ensure that all Hosts deliver attentive, courteous and efficient service to guests throughout service, in accordance with Auberge standards. Our ideal candidate has considerable prior experience in high-end food service environments, an impeccable demeanor, customer service skills par excellence and logistical and organizational acumen.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this position are:
- Organize greeting, seating and exiting of all guests using a professional demeanor.
- Organize all reservations using the most effective guest and restaurant conscious procedures.
- Professionally and effectively communicate with guests and team members to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Manage special requests from guests and be the liaison between reservations and the culinary team.
- Create a customer responsive culture where exceptional customer service prevails.
- Implement quick and efficient decisions based on guest and/or restaurant needs.
- Use business savvy skills to maximize seating space and increase revenue based on seating all guests, walk-ins and large parties.
- Communicate with all Food and Beverage team members as well as assisting with any interdepartmental needs..
- Provide the highest quality service to guests at all times.
- Awareness of all team member needs, guests’ needs, reservation needs and restaurant needs at all times.
- Program, manage and utilize OpenTable to the best of its capacities.
- Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times, aligned with Auberge Resorts Collection and Mattei’s Tavern Style and Grooming standards.
- Maintain integrity of service.
- Speak with team members and guests to encourage feedback.
- Treat every guest, team member and vendor with respect and dignity.
- Report for duty punctually wearing appropriate attire.
- Effectively communicate with the team before, during and after shift.
- Understand, plan and execute steps of service.
- Knowledge of all food and beverage menus and venue hours of operation.
- Attend and participate in weekly leadership meetings.
- Assist the host team on the floor with guests during lunch and dinner service, and at high demand times should always be at the door.
- Aware of department targets and objectives and strive for their achievement.
- Proactive in maximizing seatings to generate revenue
- Analyze business activity and compile statistics/reports as required..
- Greet all guests and clients in a professional and friendly manner..
- Prepare and print menus as required, daily.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years in a high-end, fast-paced restaurant environment which includes multi-tasking demands while working in a self-directed role.
- Adaptive organizational skills and the ability to change plans to meet new circumstances.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to tactfully deliver unwelcome news to customers.
- Ability to forge relationships within community
- Previous experience in a luxury resort setting.
- Familiarity with the Santa Ynez Valley
