General Description:
Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment.   Performs other tasks as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and diesel marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
  • Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine research equipment.
  • Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments.
  • Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves.
  • Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
  • Assists in fabrication of equipment.
  • Purchases parts and supplies.
  • Writes specifications for and recommends purchase of marine equipment.
  • Document inspection and test results and work performed or to be performed.
  • Mount motors to boats and operate boats at various speeds on waterways to conduct operational tests.
  • Repair engine mechanical equipment, such as power tilts, bilge pumps, or power take-offs.
  • Perform routine engine maintenance on motorboats, such as changing oil and filters.
  • Replace parts, such as gears, magneto points, piston rings, or spark plugs, and reassemble engines.
  • Comprehensive ability to work from plans, specifications, drawings and blueprints 
  • Boat Handling and Maintenance capabilities preferred
  • Ability to redline plans during construction is preferred

Education/Training:
  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year experience working on gasoline and diesel engines

This position is located in Honolulu, HI. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
