JOB SUMMARY:
Navatek is a world leader in the design, analysis, and construction of novel ships, underwater vehicles, and other ocean systems.  Founded in 1979 and operating out of offices in Honolulu, Hawaii, South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Portland, Maine, and Washington, DC, Navatek supports military and industry in developing systems that can survive the harsh ocean environment.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience, related to mechanical or marine systems. The individual will support the design and development of innovative solutions, taking the systems from concept, to prototype, and through production. Creativity and critical thinking are highly valued, and the candidate will be asked to solve technically challenging problems with a multi-disciplinary engineering approach. Strong engineering fundamentals, the ability to be adaptable across multiple engineering disciplines, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are required to be successful in this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support design and development of innovative solutions.

  • Solve technically challenging problems with a multi-disciplinary engineering approach.
  • Report writing and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required for this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with the design and analysis of mechanical systems and components.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain P.E. license preferred.

SKILLS & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics, structures, and naval architecture principles.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with surface and solid modeling CAD software.
  • Familiarity with structural and finite element analysis; experience with Abaqus or Nastran highly desirable.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while working strongly with others in a team.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge of composites, textiles and advanced materials is preferred.
  • Hands on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and testing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with boats and testing at-sea or at tank facilities is preferred.

This position is located in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.  Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
