Navatek is a world leader in the design, analysis, and construction of novel ships, underwater vehicles, and other ocean systems.  Founded in 1979 and operating out of offices in Honolulu, Hawaii, South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Portland, Maine, and Washington, DC, Navatek supports military and industry in developing systems that can survive the harsh ocean environment. Navatek is currently recruiting for a Systems/Network Administrator.  The Systems/Network Administrator is responsible to the I.T. Director and the clients for adjusting, monitoring, troubleshooting and overall efficient and secure operation of the network.

  • Install and configure software and hardware
  • Manage network servers and technology tools
  • Set up accounts and workstations
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
  • Plan, direct and review activities of personnel involved in computer systems network design, connectivity and implementation
  • Analyze computer systems and networks to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
  • Review connectivity requests to determine requirements for installation or modification
  • Troubleshoot network problems or systems failures involving hardware and software to determine the causes and possible solutions; implements solutions to resolve problems or notify I.T. Director of solutions requiring resources not available without other approval
  • Source computers for new employees and replacement computers for outdated hardware
  • Maintain asset database of computer, server and network hardware
  • Confer with company supervisors to determine resource needs, to establish project priority and to assist with resolution of computer networking problems.
  • Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues our users encounter
  • Prepares monthly activity reports for the I.T Director regarding division activities, systems problems and utilization.
  • Implement security systems to software, hardware, and components to ensure that we meet compliance
  • Monitor software for external intrusions, attacks, and hacks
  • Regular attendance is required for the position

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required travel will include driving 300+ miles and/or flying interstate on a monthly basis

  • BS/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline required
  • Professional certification (e.g. MCSE, MCSA, LINUX+ CompTIA) is a plus
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Cloud services (Office 365, Azure, Sharepoint)
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems and platforms
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills

This position will be located in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
