Navatek is a world leader in the design, analysis, and construction of novel ships, underwater vehicles, and other ocean systems.  Founded in 1979 and operating out of offices in Honolulu, Hawaii, South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Portland, Maine, and Washington, DC, Navatek supports military and industry in developing systems that can survive the harsh ocean environment.

The ideal candidate will have 0 to 2 years of mechanical design and analysis experience, related to mechanical or marine systems. The individual will support the design and development of innovative solutions, taking the systems from concept, to prototype, and through production. Creativity and critical thinking are highly valued, and the candidate will be asked to solve technically challenging problems with a multi-disciplinary engineering approach. Strong engineering fundamentals, the ability to be adaptable across multiple engineering disciplines, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are required to be successful in this position.

  • Support design and development of innovative solutions, using computer aided drafting tools, engineering analysis, and fabricating proof of concept prototypes
  • Investigate new science and technology
  • Take systems from concept, to prototype, and through protype fabrication
  • Solve technically challenging problems with a multi-disciplinary engineering approach
  • Report writing and presentations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Regular attendance is required for this job

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • E.I.T. preferred.

  • Proven academic record, with an emphasis on design and analysis
  • Strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with surface and solid modeling CAD software preferred.
  • Exposure to drafting and dimensioning parts and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with electro mechanical and control systems
  • Hands on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and testing is preferred.
  • Experience with machine design, performing stress analysis on mechanical parts via FEA and/or calculations.
  • Familiarity with hydrodynamics and Naval Architecture. Ability to perform hydrostatics analyses.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while working strongly with others in a team.

  • U.S. Citizenship.

This position is located in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
