JOB SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of engineering project management experience and demonstrated familiarity with the design and construction of mechanical systems, such as propulsion systems, hydraulic systems, structures, and general machine design. The individual will lead and support the design and development of innovative solutions, taking the systems from concept, to prototype, and through production. The ability to be adaptable across multiple engineering disciplines, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are required to be successful in this position. This individual should have good understanding of engineering fundamentals and experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Deputy project management or project management involving oversight of 5-10 engineers and ensuring cost and schedule over the duration of the program.
  • Design and analysis of mechanical systems. Take systems from concept, to prototype, and through production.
  • Clearly communicate mechanical concepts and ideas with engineers at variable experience levels.
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors and vendors as needed.
  • Collaborate with contracting, purchasing, and compliance teams as needed.
  • Familiarize yourself and remain current with all ongoing projects and avenues of research at the company.
  • Support the writing and review of proposals for new contracts to lend engineering accuracy to concept designs.
  • Report writing and presentations.
  • Solve technically challenging problems with a multi-disciplinary engineering approach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required for this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent from an accredited college or university
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 5+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Engineering position
  • 5 to 10 years of mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated capability in the design and construction of mechanical systems, such as propulsion systems, hydraulic, structures, and general machine design.
  • Supervisory experience

SKILLS & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
  • Proven academic record, with an emphasis on design and analysis
  • Strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with surface and solid modeling CAD software preferred.
  • Proficiency with drafting of parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with electro mechanical and control systems
  • Hands on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and testing is preferred.
  • Experience with machine design, performing stress analysis on mechanical parts via FEA and/or calculations.
  • Familiarity with hydrodynamics and Naval Architecture. Ability to perform hydrostatics analyses.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while working strongly with others in a team.

This position is located in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.  Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
