JOB SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of direct experience in engineering project management and project portfolio management and demonstrated proficiency with engineering design and construction of mechanical and electrical hardware systems, as well as software systems. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in the growth within an innovative and rapidly-growing science and technology company.
The successful candidate will manage project administrative management duties of multiple simultaneous research, development, engineering and construction projects, including the budgets, schedules, deliverables, and technical performance. The individual will take the lead on all programmatic items. This means supporting and reducing the burden on the project technical leaders (senior scientists and engineers) by performing all project management duties required by the contract, including preparation of reports, presentations, design specs and drawings, and other technical and project data as needed. The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable across multiple engineering disciplines, possess excellent verbal/written communication skills and organizational skills, and thrive in a fast-paced team environment that includes remote team members. This individual should have a thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals and at least 5 years’ experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD) and possess experience navigating complex government contracts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Programmatic management duties on one to six projects of varying size and complexity.
• Possible oversight of 5-12 multi-disciplinary engineers, scientists, and technicians.
• Responsibility for tracking cost, schedule, and meeting technical objectives over the duration of the program.
• Responsibility for reporting key performance indicators for each project in the portfolio on a consistent basis to supervisor and management.
• Clearly communicate mechanical concepts and ideas with engineers at variable experience levels.
• Proactively and effectively communicate with coworkers, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Collaborate with contracting, purchasing, and compliance teams.
• Maintain familiarity with all ongoing projects and research initiatives at the company.
• Write and review technical and cost proposals.
• Work with contracts department to review U.S. government contracts of various types (CPFF, FFP, T&M) for terms and conditions that have an impact on programs, including the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) and government security restrictions.
• Write and review technical and administrative reports, presentations, and submit deliverables
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Consistent and reliable office hours are required for this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, or similar from an accredited college or university.
• 5 to 10 years of engineering experience with demonstrated capability in the design and construction of mechanical systems, such as propulsion systems, hydraulic, structures, and general machine design.
• Supervisory experience.
OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 5+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Engineering position
• 10 to 15 years of engineering experience with demonstrated capability in the design and construction of mechanical systems, such as propulsion systems, hydraulic, structures, and general machine design.
• Supervisory experience.

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
• At least 5 years’ experience working on U.S. Department of Defense projects
• Experienced in managing budgets and schedules.
• Strategic planning: analyzes work, sets goals, develops plans of action, and utilizes time effectively.
• Experience in generating drawing packages.
• Knowledge of machine design, structures, and hydrodynamics.
• Experience with surface and solid modeling CAD software preferred.
• Hands on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and testing is preferred
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while working strongly with others in a team.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus but not necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a U.S. Government SECRET security clearance.

This position is located in Honolulu, HI.  Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
