Navatek is a world leader in the design, analysis, and construction of naval ships, underwater vehicles, and other ocean systems.  Founded in 1979 and operating out of offices in Honolulu, Hawaii, South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Portland, Maine, and Washington, DC, Navatek supports military and industry in developing systems that can survive the harsh ocean environment. Navatek is currently recruiting for a Systems Administrator. The Systems Administrator is responsible for adjusting, monitoring, troubleshooting and overall efficient and secure operation of the network.

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Monitor datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed
  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.
  • Interact with the help desk, external entities, and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed.
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups.
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
  • Plan, direct and review activities of personnel involved in computer systems network design, connectivity and implementation.
  • Develop and/or maintain installation, operation, and configuration procedures and documentation.
  • Analyze computer systems and networks to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot network problems or systems failures involving hardware and software to determine the causes and possible solutions; implements solutions to resolve. problems or notify management of solutions requiring resources not available without other approval.
  • Confer with company supervisors to determine resource needs, to establish project priority and to assist with resolution of computer networking problems.
  • Implement security systems to software, hardware, and components to ensure that we meet compliance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required travel will include driving 300+ miles and/or flying interstate on a monthly basis

  • BS in Information Technology, Computer Science
  • Professional certification (e.g. MCSE, MCSA, LINUX+ CompTIA) is a plus
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
  • Experience with vSphere virtual environment, including virtual servers, virtual switching, and management
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Cloud services (Office 365, Azure, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems and platforms
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills

This position will be located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
