Navatek LLC, a privately-owned defense contractor is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the Ann Arbor, Michigan, office for a range of exciting Department of Defense research and design challenges. The candidate will have the opportunity to help lead ground-breaking research across a diverse range of applications in digital twins, autonomous machinery, and design for unmanned ships.  Navatek is also active in areas of combat power and energy for ships, cyberphysical security for grid resiliency, and advanced naval prototypes.

Job Summary:
The Director of Engineering Operations will oversee the day-to-day activities of the company’s Ann Arbor, Michigan, office, ensuring that the organization is managed and performing efficiently and effectively.   They will join in development of new business for the office.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the hiring and training of group managers.
  • Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of group managers.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management and execution of project plans and delivery commitments.
  • Serves as mentor to key development personnel, assisting in the execution of duties upon request.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the senior engineering leadership in defining and executing long-term organizational strategies and roadmaps.
  • Implement innovative technologies within the Company, providing support and leadership to development departments and facilitate continuous evolution in both the frontend and backend development teams.
  • Execute Company procedures, policies, and associated tools in order to develop processes that are more efficient and ensure conformity with the Company’s policies and overall objectives.
  • Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
  • Improves customer service and satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.

Education and Experience:
  • B.S, M.S., or Ph.D. in Engineering with preference for Electrical, Mechanical, or Naval disciplines. 
  • Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing cross-functional teams and engineering managers, as well as demonstrating knowledge and interest in new and emerging technologies.
Required Skills:
  • Exceptional communication skills both in written and in verbal form.
  • Customer and result oriented.
  • Highly organized and analytical, creative and strategic thinker, and an ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Superior managerial and diplomacy skills.
Position Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship required.

This position will be located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
