Navatek LLC, a privately-owned defense contractor is seeking an Engineer to work on a range of exciting Department of Defense research and design challenges. The candidate will have the opportunity to help lead ground-breaking research across a diverse range of applications in robotics and machine learning, including unmanned underwater vehicles, unmanned surface vessels, multi-robot collaboration, human-machine interaction, and intelligent systems. The candidate will also have the opportunity to help steer the engineering and testing for a range of vehicles and autonomous systems for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Army. General Description
The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in robotics, electrical engineering, or related discipline. Must be willing to work on a range of basic and applied research projects, including design of future robotic systems and sensors, autonomous control logic, simulation-based performance evaluation, and new developments in machine learning and intelligent systems. Candidate should be able to thrive in a research environment - identify technical gaps in the state-of-the-art and translate client needs into system or research requirements, manage a project from conceptualization through proof-of-concept, and clearly communicate results to stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and development, including problem identification, requirements definition, new theory development, analysis, and experimentation.
  • Design and develop perception and control systems and systems of systems for new vehicles, modeling & simulation, and software applications.
  • Communicate results both internally and to stakeholders in the Department of Defense.
  • Support development of new business opportunities, including gap analysis, client relations, and proposal writing.

Qualifications / Requirements
  • Master’s degree in robotics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive research background with a minimum of three years dedicated to robotics, autonomy, or enabling artificial intelligence technologies. Preference to candidates with a background in swarm autonomy.
  • Familiarity with theory and libraries for implementing a variety of controls, decision-making, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who can take new ideas and execute solutions in an independent environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong initiative and excellent time management skills.
  • Verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required. 

This position is located at our Ann Arbor, MI office. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
