Navatek LLC, a privately-owned defense contractor, is seeking a Director of Engineering Operations to lead a new Wichita, Kansas office supporting a range of exciting Department of Defense research and design challenges. The candidate will have the opportunity to help lead ground-breaking research across a diverse range of applications in manned and unmanned air vehicles, advanced materials and composites, additive manufacturing, and robotics.  Navatek is also active in other research areas including combat power and energy for ships, cyber-physical security for grid resiliency, and advanced prototypes and concepts for naval applications.

Job Summary:
The Director of Engineering Operations will oversee the day-to-day activities within the company’s Wichita, Kansas office, ensuring that the organization is managed and performing efficiently and effectively. The Director will support development of new business for the office, including writing proposals for research programs. The Director will be one of the key personnel supporting the execution of the initial program focused on developing inflatable structures for aerospace and defense applications with research areas including: Inflatable Materials & Fabrication, Aerodynamics & Flow Control, Structural Mechanics & Aeroelasticity, Flight Mechanics, Stability & Control, Advanced Modeling & Analysis Methods, and Multifunctional Systems Integration. The research scope for this office will quickly expand beyond this initial project to include additive manufacturing, robotics, and unmanned aerial systems, among others.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the hiring and training of junior and senior engineers and eventually group managers.
  • Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of group managers.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management and execution of project plans and delivery commitments.
  • Serves as mentor to key development personnel, assisting in the execution of duties upon request.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the senior engineering leadership in defining and executing long-term organizational strategies and roadmaps.
  • Implement innovative technologies within the Company, providing support and leadership to development departments and facilitate continuous evolution in both the frontend and backend development teams.
  • Execute Company procedures, policies, and associated tools in order to develop processes that are more efficient and ensure conformity with the Company’s policies and overall objectives.
  • Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
  • Improves customer service and satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.
Education and Experience:
  • B.S, M.S., or Ph.D. in Engineering or related field with preference for Mechanical or Aerospace disciplines. 
  • Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing cross-functional teams and engineering managers, as well as demonstrating knowledge and interest in new and emerging technologies.

Position Requirements:

This position will be located in Wichita, Kansas. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
