Navatek LLC, a privately-owned defense contractor is seeking a Fabrication Technician to work on a range of innovative Department of Defense (DoD) prototype fabrication projects. This position will work closely with the engineering team to fabricate innovative prototype solutions for DoD problems. We are looking for someone who can apply their experience to the unique systems Navatek designs and can quickly pick up on some of our unique fabrication techniques.  This opportunity is located at the South Kingstown, RI location in the new fabrication building.

General Description: The ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience fabricating both hardware and textile components.  Ability to read and produce drawings to fabricate parts and complete full system assembly is required. Good communication skills with project managers is essential.  Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and workshop management practices is required. Travel to local vendors may be required to support procurement as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with engineering teams to understand and refine prototype designs based on fabrication constraints.
  • Will work in all phases of textile-based inflatable technology manufacturing from thread selection to weaving and coating processes, panel construction, and final fabrication and testing.
  • Read drawings to custom fabricate parts (metal/wood/textiles).
  • Produce drawings from 3D CAD models
  • Complete full system assembly of prototypes.
  • Operate 3D printers CNC routers and other digitally controlled machines.
  • Operate traditional hand and power tools for forming wood, metal, and textiles
  • Keep informed and enforce OSHA safety requirements in the workshop.
  • Upkeep workshop and equipment maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Manage scheduling of projects utilizing the workshop and fabrication space.

Qualifications / Requirements
  • Proof of competency in machine shop or woodshop environment.
  • Experience working with textiles and fabricating inflatable structures.
  • Experience reading design drawings and executing the fabrication and assembly.
  • Creative hands-on individual with experience in the design, fabrication, and assembly of inflatable products (webbing, attachments, inflation components) preferred.
  • Rotary welding experience (preferably with Miller Weldmaster)
  • Experience using CAD (Solidworks, Rhino, and AutoCAD) preferred
  • Familiar with advanced technical textiles, from thread types to various coating materials and construction; composite layers, coatings, reinforcements
  • Proficiency with basic office software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and possess time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills required to enable an effective interface with others.
  • Willingness to train in some of Navatek’s unique fabrication methods and adapt them quickly.
  • Forklift operation and maintenance experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
This job operates in a fabrication shop alongside a professional office environment. This role routinely uses inflatable fabrication equipment and shop tools necessary for the production of metal/wood parts, models, and inflatable prototypes, as well as standard office equipment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
