General Description:
Navatek LLC, a privately-owned defense contractor is seeking a Software Engineer - Cyber Security to work on a range of exciting Department of Defense research and design challenges. The candidate will have the opportunity to help lead ground-breaking research across a diverse range of applications in cybersecurity. This position will partner with researchers working on industrial control systems, power control systems, unmanned underwater vehicles, unmanned surface vessels, multi-robot collaboration, human-machine interaction, and intelligent systems. This position is an opportunity to join a group of talented engineers growing to fill the needs of the Department of Defense. This opportunity is located at either the South Kingston, Rhode Island office or the Honolulu, Hawaii office.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or related discipline. Must be willing and motivated to work on a range of basic and applied research projects including design of future cybersecurity systems, securing digital twin systems, vulnerability analysis of autonomous vehicles. Candidate should be able to thrive in a research environment – identify technical gaps in the state-of-the-art and translate client needs into system or research requirements, manage a project from conceptualization through proof-of-concept, and clearly communicate results to stakeholders. Periodic travel within the United States, including Hawaii, is necessary for project management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research and development: problem identification, requirements definition, new theory development, analysis, experimentation.
  • Engineering cybersecurity for next-generation shipboard power systems.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders in the Department of Defense.
  • Support development of new business opportunities: gap analysis, client relations, proposal writing.

Basic Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who can take new ideas and execute solutions in an independent environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field
  • Proficiency with programming and scripting languages (Python, etc.)
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate your research
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Experience with US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and/or Air Force a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or 2-3 years of experience in Computer Science or similar field
  • Experience with RESTFUL Web services
  • Experience deploying to cloud platforms
  • Experience with Industrial Control System security
