STEVENSON COLLEGE & CAREER PREPARATORY
Stevenson College and Career Preparatory is located in Boyle Heights and serves 1000 students in grades 6-8. Home of the Pirates, the school is named after the famous author Robert Louis Stevenson. The school includes two magnet schools, one focusing on Leadership and Technology and the other on Gifted and High Achieving students. There is also a growing dual language immersion program. Stevenson College and Career Preparatory partners with many community based organizations like City Year, and The Save the Music Foundation. Stevenson is a 1:1 iPad school through a grant with the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Program. The school has an active parent center that offers a variety of workshops for families including the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools Parent College Program.


PRINCIPAL POSITION
The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools seeks a highly effective, transformational urban school leader to drive continued growth and sustain a positive academic culture and safe climate for students and adults.  The Principal will be responsible for ensuring that all students have the tools they need to be academically successful, that all members of the community (students, teachers, parents and families) have high expectations for student achievement and conduct, and that academic performance improves continuously for all students. The Principal will be an experienced, committed, and entrepreneurial school leader who is excited by the challenge of school transformation and who has demonstrated success at dramatically improving student achievement at a high-need school.

Below are the responsibilities and qualifications required of Partnership principals. The specific school community’s stakeholders, including school staff, parents, students, and partner organizations, will also provide their highest priority qualities and characteristics. These priorities will inform the hiring committee’s selection process.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal Principal candidate will demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications:
  • Track record of positive impact on student achievement while in an administrative position; evidence of increasing student growth on standardized test scores and other indicators for all students as well as success in raising achievement for student subgroups (prior principal experience highly preferred)
  • Passion for improving academic achievement and life outcomes for low-income students of color; a belief that all students can reach high levels of achievement with support from adults
  • Exemplary in the areas of pursuing results, problem-solving, and showing confidence to lead
  • Demonstrates strong instructional leadership skills, with an emphasis on successful teacher development and extensive knowledge of the Common Core Standards
  • Experience with the curricula our students use is a plus; these include Illustrative Math,
    Study Sync, and Amplify Science
  • Completion of rigorous classroom observation training; it is highly desired that LAUSD candidates have completed the Educator Development and Support: Teachers (EDST) Observer Certification and can show evidence of certification. Out-of-District candidates will need to enroll in this LAUSD training and obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of research-based best practices in the field of education pedagogy including curriculum design, professional development and assessments
  • Experience supervising implementation of multiple programs at the school level, including but not limited to special education, Title I, and ELL
  • Prior experience working on a shared campus and/or willingness to foster positive working relationships across schools
  • Ability and passion for leading a diverse team of adults to high levels of performance
  • Inspiring leader, able to quickly build trust and strong working relationships with students, teachers, classified staff, parents and other community members
  • Strong understanding and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports; experience with Restorative Justice preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with blended learning models preferred
  • Demonstrates cultural competence; comfortable, respectful and humble when working with diverse populations (parents and students, teachers and staff, community partners, and others)
  • Ability to model an open and honest dialogue with all stakeholders; ability to have difficult conversations when needed in order to create the best working environment for
    students and adults
  • Strong professional judgment, able to make tough decisions under pressure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Reflective, self-aware and open to new ideas and opinions
  • Spanish proficiency preferred


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • At least 8 years of successful full-time public school certificated service, including:
    • At least 2 years of successful service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as a Principal or Assistant Principal position,
    • At least 3 years of successful experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
    • At least 2 years of experience at an elementary, middle or senior high school preferred
  • Master’s degree from an regionally accredited college or university
  • Multicultural coursework (candidates have one year to complete)
  • District Master Plan requirements (candidates have one year to complete)

For all school based administrative positions, it is preferred that candidates be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or that they are currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

COMPENSATION
Total first year salary ranges from $121,993 to $152,136 (equivalent to A basis range).
Compensation comes from two sources:  LAUSD provides the base salary (between $109,373- $136,397, 45G, E-Basis, 234 paid days) and the Partnership supplements the principal’s salary for working a year-round school calendar (equivalent to the A-Basis calendar of 260 paid days). The Partnership may provide an additional one-time bonus for additional experience and/or performance.
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.
