The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking highly motivated, and natural self-starter Recruitment and Community Relations Advisor to support the work of student recruitment.  This position will play a vital role in directly supporting Edwin Markham Middle School to increase enrollment through the development and execution of direct outreach and recruitment initiatives. This position will have the ability to make tangible change by working closely with our Magnet Coordinator and other school staff to create and implement outreach strategies and initiatives.  You will join an exciting team of change makers dedicated to supporting and enhancing the lives of Watts students and families.

The Recruitment & Community Relations Advisor  will be someone who is excited to keep these values in mind when executing day-to-day tasks and responsibilities.

This position will require being at Edwin Markham Middle School often (approximately 80% of the time) throughout the spring but working remotely otherwise, as the Partnership home office remains closed. As such, this position requires living in the Los Angeles area.

As a Recruitment and Community Relation Advisor, you will….

(~40%) Direct School Support 

  • Provide side-by-side planning to develop creative and effective recruitment activities and events to motivate potential students to enroll.

  • Develop and execute, with the participation of staff, innovative programs to expand student opportunities for integration, academic enrichment, and growth.  

(~35%) Direct Outreach

  • Easily establish relationships with students, families and community members via phone, email, in-person 

  • Maintain liaison with counselors, faculty, and staff from feeder schools  to establish/maintain communication and facilitate enrollment efforts. Feeder schools include public, private and charter.

  • Create partnerships with community members and local businesses that support our residential program and magnet programs. 

  • Represent Markham at various events and meetings to provide information to prospective students regarding academics, athletic programs, extracurricular activities, etc.

  • Visit feeder schools to promote Markham’s programs and conduct school tours for prospective students and parents.

  • Prepare and conduct oral presentations for elementary  groups, schools fairs, and other events to encourage school enrollment.

(~10%) ​​Design Collateral

  • Prepare high-quality and persuasive marketing and promotional campaigns, documents, and other communication, to promote school’s programs. Marketing and communication includes digital and social media formats and brochures, flyers, PowerPoints.

(~10%) Special Projects

  • Support planning and implementation of workshops for school-based recruitment leads aimed at sharing best practices and supporting a community of practice across schools.

  • Research and codify best practices for teacher and student recruitment from outside and inside our network.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

(~5%) Track and Analyze Data and Systems 

  • Conduct data analysis to support all schools in creating recruitment strategies.

  • Organize and maintain records to help track and measure success of the work.

Desirable Experience/ Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will have a minimum 2 years of professional experience working within student/campus recruitment or a related field.

  • Associates degree preferred not required.

  • A valid California driver license and the ability to travel to other sites and locations throughout the District.

  • Excellent recruiting and strong customer service skills are essential.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators.

  • Strong computer and technology skills and interest in and ability to learn new platforms, systems and software.

  • Ability to analyze student data and enrollment trends using excel.

  • Ability to communicate authentically with the communities and other various stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Spanish fluency is a plus.

This position is based on Edwin Markham Middle School’s budget, and will be renewed on a year-to-year basis.
