The Partnership is seeking a strategic, relational, and highly-motivated Director of Strategy & Operations to lead the work of the home office Strategy & Operations Team. The Director is responsible for turning vision into implementation through the management of organization-wide strategy development, teaming alignment, and home office operation systems, all in service of the Partnership’s mission and goals. The Director leads the home office Strategy & Operations Team to implement organizational strategic planning cycles and annual team planning, designs and supports organizational initiatives, refines management systems across teams, and supports additional projects with the goal of better organizing the Partnership’s collective scope of work. The Director serves as a thought partner with internal and external stakeholders in understanding challenges and problem-solving toward sustainable strategies and results. The Director is a model for teaming, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement in the organization, and through their leadership, builds capacity in the individuals and teams that they manage, as well as to executive team members and Board Members. The Director’s key responsibilities include the following areas and may be changed based on the needs of the organization and schools we serve. 

Strategic Planning & Implementation (40%) 

  • Facilitate organizational planning cycles, including long-term strategic planning and annual planning across teams, and monitor progress against dashboards, goals, and key priorities

  • Coordinate across teams and organization’s Model Areas of Revolutionize, Transform, and Model to align priorities and promote connection and collaboration, and models collaborative engagement for others

  • Support teams, leaders, committees, and Executive Team as they plan and execute their work in a strategic, aligned, and cross-functional way

  • Oversee team structures and support reorganization and reprioritization toward the goal of strategic alignment and collaboration, as necessary

  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects that align with strategic plans and goals


Home Office Operations (25%)

  • Manage planning and implementation of organization-wide programming, projects, and events, including staff meetings, celebrations, retreats, and org-wide calendar

  • Ensure organizational technology infrastructure is adequate and sustainable with the resources and supports necessary

  • Support design and ongoing implementation of the Partnership’s hybrid work model in an organized and accessible way


Organizational Culture & Learning (20%)

  • Help build and oversee strategy for organization-wide learning with the intention of building on the Partnership’s culture of learning and growth

  • Create and roll out inclusive and scalable best practices for teaming and collaboration, including frequency, cadence, and content of meetings across the organization

  • Support Cabinet and the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

  • Support manager learning communities and trainings

Board and Executive Team Support & Engagement (15%)

  • Support Executive Team and Board of Directors with an eye toward strategy, resource alignment, and committee engagement

  • Plan, develop, and provide facilitation support for Board and Executive Team meetings and retreats, in partnership with Executive Associate

Skills and knowledge areas:

  • Minimum 7 years of progressing experience with operations, strategic planning, systems designing, and project planning in the public sector, ideally in one of the three communities we serve (Boyle Heights, South LA and Watts)

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment

  • Adaptable when managing shifting and competing priorities

  • Critical thinking skills and able to jump into projects to understand the systems at play and identify potential gaps, and equity gaps in particular

  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy

  • Authentic relationship-building skills that can cultivate trust and understanding with key stakeholders and team members

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and authentically

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other experienced professionals, colleagues, Board members, external partners, and colleagues of various functions and expertise

  • Ability to summarize data and identify trends

  • Hold a valid California driver’s license

  • Ability to travel locally in Los Angeles

  • Proficient in Spanish preferred

The Partnership has recently completed a thorough study of market-competitive salaries, and has applied the learning from that study to salary offers for all home office positions. Our goal is to ensure that pay is fair for all staff members, both considering the market and considering pay equity among staff in similar roles in the organization. The Partnership offers a robust benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance and a 403(b) retirement program. This is a full time, year-round position.
