Who We Need

Penn Color, Inc. (Hatfield, PA) seeks an Associate Group Leader of Finished Inks & Coatings who will provide guidance and oversight to a team of chemists/scientists who are tasked to formulate inks and coatings.

Your Knowledge, Skills and Experience will include:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (or foreign equivalent) in Printing Science, Paper/Imaging Science and Engineering or related field
  • Experience can be gained pre or post completion of qualifying degree and 5 years of experience formulating water-based printing inks/pigment dispersions in flooring and wallcovering structures with strong emphasis on PVC films
  • Establishing required QC procedures and performing quality audits of formulations, and interpretation of data obtained from processing/QC equipment
  • Working experience with Gravure printing, graphic arts and flexible web printing process
  • Bringing products from R&D stage to commercialization
  • Dealing and interacting with customers on technical topics related to ink troubleshooting, printing process and new product development
  • Managing, directing and training other technical research and development personnel
  • Regional and national travel 2-4 times per month

What YOU Can Do For Us
 
  • Direct and instruct chemists/scientists in their interactions and activities with technicians, production, management and customers
  • Provide technical service to customers and interact with customers to define future product needs and solutions to problems
  • Facilitate onsite customer ink training programs
  • Manage on-site application trials on customer equipment and define and assess their processing parameters and product performance to identify areas in need of improvement
  • Establish required QC procedures and perform quality audits of formulations, and interpret data obtained from processing/QC equipment
  • Use advanced knowledge of Gravure printing, graphic arts and flexible web printing process to formulate inks
  • Screen and research solvents, polymers, pigments and chemical additives to assess their performance and processing requirements in ink formulation
  • Formulate water-based printing inks/pigment dispersions in flooring and wallcovering structures with strong emphasis on PVC films
  • Provide final approval of formulas developed by ink formulation chemists/scientists
  • Accurately define and write formulation composition, processing procedures, and QC requirements for developed formulations
  • Utilize QC equipment and test procedures including interpretation of the data collected
  • Bring products from R&D stage to commercialization
  • Utilize lab processing equipment to simulate the manufacturing process
  • Utilize Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • On-site customer training to integrate Penn Color’s ink products utilizing dispensers, spectrophotometers, and mixing equipment
  • Deal and interact with customers on technical topics related to ink troubleshooting, printing process and new product development
  • Manage, direct and train other technical research and development personnel
  • Interact with technicians, chemists, production, management and customers
  • Confer with scientists and engineers in other departments and functional laboratories to conduct analysis of ink research projects, interpret test results, and develop nonstandard tests
