Who We Need

Penn Color is looking for a Technical Director, EU Thermoplastics.

You will collaborate with marketing and product management to define product strategy and use your technical experience to translate that strategy into an executable product development roadmap. You will manage the technical development activities for the thermoplastic market in Europe such as executing the product roadmap into projects, assess how Penn Color’s products will meet customer needs, and provide technical support to the chemists and technicians on product specifications for development.

In addition to those functions, you will be globally responsible for product development and technical support for the high temperature technical polymers segment.

This role is located in Venray, NL and will report directly to the VP, R&D who is located in Hatfield PA (United States) while having a dotted line reporting relationship with the Venray Site Leader.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Lead the EMEA Thermoplastics team in execution of product development and technical service activities to successful commercial outcomes.
  • Provide global leadership and alignment in advancing our interests in the high temperature technical polymers market.
  • Liaise with the Strategic Marketing and Product Mangers to develop and implement technology strategy and roadmaps.
  • Drive technical excellence and continuous improvement within the Thermoplastics group.

Product Strategy
  • Scout new technologies using online research and attendance of trade shows and conferences.
  • Collaborate with Product Mangers to develop and implement technology strategy and roadmaps.
  • Visit customers regularly to support sales with discovery process and presenting results. Actively lead customer needs and innovation meetings as well as researching industry developments to identify new opportunities. Provide technical support through joint customer visits. Confer with customers to determine how to tailor materials to their needs.

Technical:
  • Evaluate and resolve technical topics from design and planning to production and quality initiatives for all thermoplastic applications.
  • Provide technical insight and expertise in developing product offerings to the high temperature technical polymers market.
  • Study and advise on proper physical properties, of polymers, compounds, and alloys to various processing conditions customers.
  • Compare existing Penn Color technologies for Consumer Goods and Engineering polymer formulation, production, and quality control.
  • Create and maintain global best practices in the formulation, production, and Quality Control for Consumer Goods and Engineering Polymers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field (prefer a Master Degree or greater)
  • Minimum of 10 years demonstrate leadership experience and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Relevant industry experience with customer product development and presenting technologies to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time (potential for International mainly domestic)
  • Knowledge in managing technical projects in a global market environment.
