Position Summary:
The Assistant Production Manager reports directly to the Production Manager and works closely with the Business Development team, EH&S team, and other department managers. This position is responsible for the planning and scheduling aspects of a ship repair project and industrial fabrication divisions.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader in the field monitoring job progress, works closely with superintendents, is a hands-on problem solver able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Supports the Production Manager in ensuring project milestones and goals are met and production work is accomplished to budget.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate production workflow among crafts to increase efficiency, eliminate redundancy and rework.
  • Assist in the management of the Production Department in all phases of project performance and personnel related matters
  • Schedules equipment confirms material supply and demands and prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts.
  • Advises and communicates to management the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed.

  • Identify skill requirements to meet current and future needs of the business.
  • Supports and drives long-range strategic planning process to ensure accurate labor forecasting.

Skills/ Technical Knowledge:

Education, Training, & Experience:
  • College of Vocational School credentials preferred. 
  • 10+ years Ship repair or heavy industrial manufacturing experience required. 
  • DOD/DON/Federal Government project management experience
  • PMP or PgMP certification a plus.
  • Experienced managing multiple departments, projects, and teams of up to 100 personnel.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items 
  • Proficient with MS Office programs: Word, Excel, & Outlook including Visio and PM software
  • Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs.

Description of Work Environment:
  • Environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as heat, rain, and extreme temperature differences from inside to outside.
  • Schedule primarily M-F.  However, evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required based on the needs of the business. 
  • Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, fumes, etc.

  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
  • Valid State of Hawaii drivers' license in good standing, class 3 or higher
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
