Hourly Rate: $28.00 p/h average (DOE) 
FULL TIME POSITION-OVERTIME ELIGBILE

Position Summary:
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

The Welder welds metal components with appropriate equipment to fit and join, fabricate, and/or repair a variety of marine equipment and structural components per specifications and in accordance with the production schedule.  Performs SMAW, GMAW, and other welding techniques in all positions of various metal and alloys.  Must be familiar with ABS & NAVSEA standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs welding duties using wire welding GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), or SMAW (Stick Welding)
  • Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, or oral instructions. Welds range from simple tacks to complex welds, performed in varying positions
  • Works includes set-up, laying out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and/or equipment products
  • Operates and/or uses related equipment and tools which include forklifts, hoists, slings, grinders (portable & bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, a tape measure, and Air Arc
  • Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs and complete the daily check sheets
  • Reads, understands, and follows job order specifications, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Maintains level of work performance in accordance with standards and/or job order specifications
  • Participates in process and product development and improvement programs, teams, and focus groups
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.  Keep work area clean and clean up after project completion or end of shift as appropriate

Education/Training:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience required
  • ASW certification preferred, however, not required
  • Large scale industrial experience. Marine/shipyard/ship repair experience preferred, however, not required
  • Experience with computers/electronics preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to work standing on a variety of surfaces including steel decks and concrete for 8-12 hours per day
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform work in heavy industrial/shipyard setting with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity, industrial odors, fumes, gasses, chemicals, oil, grease, smoke, dust, noise, and vibration, and involves climbing ladders and stairs, using pneumatic tools, working in cramped quarters, and working with moving machinery
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, face shield, welding helmet, welding gloves, welding sleeves/jacket (leather or cloth), and welding apron/chaps. A respirator may also be required

Physical Demands:
  • Maneuvering in tight places, uneven floors 
  • Climbing up and down ladders, ramps and stairs 
  • Standing for long periods of time 
  • Occasionally requires twisting, turning, bending, climbing, and walking over uneven surfaces
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
  • Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs. continuously; 
  • Lifting objects weighing over 50 lbs. with assistance

Qualification/Requirements:
  • Candidates must reside on Oahu, Hawaii.  
  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
  • Valid State of Hawaii drivers’ license in good standing, class 3 or higher
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
