Position Title:     Equipment Reconditioning Technician
Reports To:         Facilities Manager

Position Summary
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

The primary duties of the Equipment Reconditioning Technician (ERT) are to maintain the physical appearance of various types of powered and stationary equipment to the highest standards- ensuring PSI is professionally represented to customers. In addition, the ERT will perform various planned maintenance tasks to ensure equipment is in the optimum working condition.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain various powered and stationary industrial equipment using comprehensive corrosion control program. Including painting, corrosion removal, surface preparation, and minor body work repairs, as an example.
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment needed to complete a job.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting or repainting by pressure washing, sandblasting, grinding and or sanding to remove dirt, rust, and loose paint.
  • Select premixed paints and prepare to match specified colors.
  • Perform work to erect and dismantle scaffolding, and work from scaffolds and cranes when necessary
  • Apply prime and finish paints and rust preventative materials to a variety of surfaces
  • Cut and apply stencils
  • Operate various types equipment when required
  • Order Supplies, tools and equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Maintain tools and equipment
  • Maintain records and prepare associated reports
  • Perform preventive maintenance as required
  • Learn to operate equipment, including forklifts, man-lifts and Gradall Excavators
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Training & Experience:
  • Knowledge of methods, materials tools and equipment used in cosmetic equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Waste disposal methods
  • Knowledge of methods and practices of cleaning and maintaining painting equipment and supplies
  • Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs.

  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
  • Valid State of Hawaii drivers' license in good standing, class 3 or higher
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
