Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller is a full-time position responsible for assessing business expenses, preparing optimized job cost budget plans, and ad hoc special projects. The person in this roll will provide professional, timely service to both internal staff and external contacts, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail that is required of an accounting system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively manages the daily activities of the Accounting Department and develops the accounting team.
  • Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and current accounting standards and ensures such information is well-documented.
  • Hands-on involvement and oversight throughout all aspects of daily finance and accounting organization.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, develop processes, and manage daily accounting functions.
  • Establish and maintain best practice internal controls, transaction-processing operations, policies, and procedures.

General Ledger
  • Provide accounting support by performing a variety of accounting duties involving account reconciliations, account analysis, and journal entries for general ledger adjustments.
  • Assist with month-end closing.

Job Cost
  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of organization
  • Ensure proper job cost reporting of transaction, prepare job closing, and related journal entries
  • Collect and organize cost information into the Accounting Database
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Assist Project Managers with budgets and budget records
  • Maintain Project Status Reports for weekly Production meetings
  • Track job costs from start to completion
  • Assure contract compliance of project
  • Assure efficient job close-out
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Accounts Receivable
  • Prepare customer invoices as requested by various field personnel
  • Assure thorough and timely billing of all projects, works with project managers to get updated information for billing
  • Record customer invoices, including those prepared by Contracts
  • Maintain electronic filing of cash receipts and invoices
  • Follow up with customers regarding payment status of outstanding invoices

  • 5-10+ years of complex, progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in construction is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting of Finance
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically Excel
  • Experience with Sage 300 software a plus

  • Critical thinker with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional work ethic, strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines  

  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification.
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites as needed
