The Website/Digital Content Manager must possess the ability to think both creatively and analytically.  Duties include producing and publishing content, writing, editing, proofreading, formulating content strategies and working with city departments.  The role of the Website/Digital Content Manager is to design, develop and manage the City’s websites, web-facing applications and digital content systems. The Website/Digital Content Manager will oversee and manage the design and development of web-related projects and digital content channels.  This individual will work with departments to create content for the website and other digital channels, including digital signage and the government channel.

Receives general direction from the Information Technology Director and Applications Supervisor.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Constantly optimize and improve the website and digital platforms.

Collaborate with departments to plan and develop website content, style and layout.

Provide editorial, creative and technical support to department-level content contributors.

Train department-level content contributors to use of content management system and design best practices.

Monitor websites and digital content to ensure systems are error-free and information is relevant.

Create and publish engaging content.

Write, edit, proofread and review content to ensure information is being disseminated properly on all channels.

Track web analytics to ascertain content engagement levels.

Manage content across all web and digital platforms.

Ensure content complies with laws (e.g. copyright and data protection) and standards.

Stay current with website and digital content trends and solutions.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge of:
Thorough understanding of how-to architect information flows on the web.

Website architecture and aesthetics.

Content management systems.

Basic tools of website and digital content production: HTML, CSS, audio/video editing software and photo editing software.

Excellent writing skills in English (second language is a bonus).

Digital accessibility, SEO strategies and other best web design practices.

Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills.

Ability to:
Demonstrate proven experience as a web designer.

Manage websites and webpage content.

Develop and format content for online communication.

Display creativity and develop original and engaging content.

Define priorities and develop methods and routines.

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
  • making observations
  • ability to focus and read printouts, computer screens and other written material
  • operating assigned equipment
  • communicating with others over the telephone and in person.

Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:
  • interpreting work orders and directions.

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
  • walking, standing, stooping, kneeling or sitting for extended periods of time
  • elevating and moving various equipment and materials
  • bending at both waist and knees
  • reaching with arms above the head
  • lifting up to thirty-five (25) pounds
  • operating assigned equipment including a motor vehicle.

Ability to build relationships and work cross-functionally with business units.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES – Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible professional experience as a Webmaster of Web Developer.

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in Marketing, Journalism, Website Content Writing, Web Design, Human Factors Engineering, Public Relations, Communications or closely related field.

License and Certification:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas Class C Driver's License.
