VistAbility, formerly Contra Costa ARC, is a non-profit agency serving Contra Costa County that exists to enhance and enrich the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide direct services and advocacy to assist those we serve in achieving their highest level of personal independence and self-sufficiency.

The Supported Employment Assistant serves all participants in the Supported Employment Program including people referred, those in the assessment phase as well as those individuals who are receiving on-going support. 

Activities Include:
  • Schedules, notifies participants, chairs and documents all annual and semi-annual conferences.
  • Discusses plan with family, case managers, etc as appropriate.
  • Conducts quarterly reviews of case files and quality assurance.
  • Provides information to people served regarding resources available in the community to promote individual goals.
  • Substitutes for job coaches and crew supervisors as needed
  • May compile quarterly program evaluation data.
  • Establishes and maintains client case files.
  • Enters SEP computer data and retrieves computer reports.
  • May prepare SEP billing for funding agencies.
  • Orders and distributes all supplies for CSS crews. 
  • Reviews Vehicle Maintenance Checklist to ensure completion and needs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in consumer-centered services and a high level of enthusiasm for the agency’s mission.
  • Demonstrated success in the ability to provide guidance and support to direct service staff in their own work supporting people served. As well as problem solving skills, in the absence of direct supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative and complete assigned tasks, while remaining flexible to a changing schedule.
  • Knowledge of: individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to:  to communicate proficiently in professional English both orally and in writing, must be proactive with communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, and data entry and internet usage.

A successful Supported Employment Assistant ideally fulfills the Required Qualifications in the following way:
Education/Training:
Some college course work. Four (4) year college degree in related field strongly preferred. Experience may be substituted for education.
Experience: Three years of continuous, verifiable work experience, preferably with one year in a rehabilitation program, reading and writing professional reports.
License/Training: Valid California Driver’s License with a good driving record and a vehicle to use for work purposes with valid insurance.

The following physical capabilities are required for all positions at Commercial Support Services:
Lifting: the ability to frequently lift 10 to 35 pounds and occasionally lift 35 to 75 pounds, the ability to lift adults of average weight and height to their feet or to a chair/wheelchair.
Pushing/Pulling: the ability to safely push or pull a manually operated pallet jack carrying loads which range in weight from 500 to 2200 pounds -- maximum distance approximately 60 feet, maximum load approximately 2200 pounds.
Bending/Squatting/Reaching: the ability to assist in a medical or behavioral emergency such as a grand mal seizure or aggressive or destructive behavior. These activities may require bending or squatting on the floor.

Compensation: $18/hour plus benefits 
Hours: Monday – Friday: 8am-3:30pm Some variation in days and hours may be required.

Our vacation accrual rates are generous:
  • 1st and 2nd year of employment = 2 weeks vacation a year
  • 3rd and 4th year of employment = 3 weeks vacation a year
  • 5th to 9th year of employment = 4 weeks vacation a year
  • 10th year onward = 5 weeks vacation a year
