VistAbility is a non-profit serving Contra Costa County that exists to enhance and enrich the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide direct services and advocacy to assist those we serve in achieving their highest level of personal independence and self-sufficiency.

The Maintenance Specialist oversees all assigned maintenance, repairs, and improvements in
VistAbility’s facilities. 

Essential Functions: 
  • Paint, refinish and perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing ballasts and light fixtures
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance work order tasks on HVAC, plumbing, electrical
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization according to safety guidelines
  •  Identifies and reports maintenance concerns for building, interior and exterior.
  • Completes approved repairs for assigned facility, interior and exterior, including
    irrigation, doors, bathroom fixtures, and minor plumbing.
  • Completes all routine maintenance activities, such as touch up painting, flooring, power
    washing of the building, replace HVAC filters and clean/organize sheds and storage
  • Coordinates repair activities with professional service contractors.
  • Works on interior and exterior improvement projects, such as installing various
    items and rebuilding benches and landscape improvement.
  • Reports any safety concerns; handles necessary urgent matters pertaining to the
    safety of the buildings.
  • Uses appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Completes and logs all assignments in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in dry walling, painting, plumbing, basic electrical and/or carpentry preferred
  • Experience in operating maintenance equipment, including hand and power tools, test equipment and pressure washer preferred
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on program schedule and needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. Work independently, with little
    direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude in repair and maintenance of buildings.
  • Assess situations and determine appropriate level of intervention needed for repair
    while considering cost.
Minimum Requirements:  
  • Valid CA driver license and good driving record required.
  • Must meet State Licensing requirements involving health screening and Dept. of Justice clearance including fingerprinting and background check.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination required - subject to religious or medical exemption requests  
Location: Work sites across Contra Costa County

Hours: 37.5 paid hours per week.  

Compensation: $29 per hour plus great benefits!

Our vacation accrual rates are generous: 1st and 2nd year of employment = 2 weeks vacation a year; 3rd and 4th year of employment = 3 weeks vacation a year; 5th to 9th year of employment = 4 weeks vacation a year; the 10th year onward = 5 weeks vacation a year.
