VistAbility is a non-profit serving Contra Costa County that exists to enhance and enrich the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide direct services and advocacy to assist those we serve in achieving their highest level of personal independence and self-sufficiency.

VistAbility is looking for a Family Partner who has the ability to provide support to families because of their experience as a primary caregiver to a child with disabilities or mental health challenges.

The Family Partner is an integral member of the Wraparound team.  Wraparound services provide intensive support for families of young children with complex needs. The young child may have severe behavioral and/or emotional difficulties, mental health needs, or developmental delays. The Wraparound team works with the family to minimize and resolve problems and achieve goals that are important to family members for a more stable and balanced family life. Services are provided to families across all socioeconomic levels, at their home, the clinic and in the community, as is needed by the family.  

Essential Functions: 
  • Gather, maintain, and provide information about community resources of interest to parents and families. 
  • Conduct outreach to parents and families new to the program or services inviting involvement in parent support groups and other activities. 
  • Attend staff support family involvement meetings, trainings, and direct services, which may include: sending out reminders, home visits, child care arrangements, agenda, meeting facilitation, transportation, or cleanup.
  • Participate in training to enhance skills regarding parent rights and responsibilities in order to respond to parent and family questions, and to direct them to available resources. 
  • Represent parent issues from the Family Involvement Group in assigned geographical areas and serve as liaison to reply information both ways. Encourage other parents and family members to become involved. 
Required Experience:  
  • Must have experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with defined needs in at least one area, though ideally in multiple areas of service.  The service areas include: education/special education, Mental Health, Juvenile Justice and fragile medical needs. 
Minimum qualifications include:  
  • Knowledge of the needs, problems, and issues encountered by parents/caregivers of children with serious mental health concerns and developmental disabilities, and be able to accept the family where they are in an easy and non-judgmental manner.  
  • A high level of enthusiasm for VistAbility’s mission with a strong interest in Wraparound services to families.
  • Must be able to communicate well orally and in writing, in English.  
Minimum Requirements:  
  • Valid CA Driver’s license with a good driving record and a car to use for work purposes.  
  • Must meet State licensing requirements involving health screening and Department of Justice clearance.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination required - subject to religious or medical exemption requests. 
Education:  High school diploma or GED

Compensation: $22/hour

Hours:  Monday – Friday, 30 - 37.5 hours per week, depending on program need. Full time benefits offered.

Our vacation accrual rates are generous: 1st and 2nd year of employment = 2 weeks vacation a year; 3rd and 4th year of employment = 3 weeks vacation a year; 5th to 9th year of employment = 4 weeks vacation a year; the 10th year onward = 5 weeks vacation a year.

Location: providing services in East Contra Costa County, with office in Pittsburg
