Founded in 1965, VistAbility (formerly Contra Costa ARC) is a non-profit agency serving the East Bay. The Lynn Center is our preschool and behavioral health program site located in Pittsburg. 

The Lynn Center's Behavioral Health Services provides specialized classroom instruction for children aged 3-5 years old that have encountered trauma in their lives. This program's approach to teaching incorporates a trauma-informed perspective of behavior and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  

The Mental Health Assistant provides classroom support for children that have demonstrated behavioral and social-emotional challenges. The Mental Health Assistant works with other staff to provide instruction, trauma-informed care, and academic programming. 

Essential Functions:
  • Plans and implements daily activities for small group, including class, music and lunch, when necessary, under the direction of the Children’s Mental Health Specialist.
  • Encourages the children to participate fully in activities using positive reinforcement
  • Collects data on individual children as prescribed by the Individual Program Plan.
  • Potty trains children (including toileting and diapering). 
  • Serves as an advocate and positive role model for the children.

Minimum Requirements Include:

  • HS Diploma/GED and good written and verbal communication skills
  • 12 Early Childhood Education units (or the willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to meet state Licensing requirements involving health screening and Department of Justice clearance including fingerprinting and background check
  • COVID-19 Vaccination and booster required - religious or medical exemption requests can be considered
  • Indoor masking is required at all program sites when in contact with any staff and/or participants
Location: Pittsburg 

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm, 30 hrs/week, year round

Compensation: $16/hr + full benefits
