POSITION SUMMARY:
The Short Haul – CDL Class A Driver is expected to work as a valued member of the transportation operations. This job will primarily consist of vehicle operations involving positioning and moving trucks and trailers on and between local destinations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate company-owned and leased trucks to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chains, or covers.
  • Operate trucks for delivery, pickup and relocation of customer materials and products.
  • Perform required before-, during- and after-operation “user maintenance” or inspections and provide required reports daily.
  • Observe and report mechanical equipment failures immediately. 
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT.
  • Maintain and protect all property in clean and in good working order.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate MHE (Material Handling Equipment) to assist with loading and unloading material.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established OSHA requirements.
  • Required to follow safety standards.  Required to wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management and recognizes the responsibilities of being an owner of the company.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed mostly in a controlled atmosphere; will be exposed to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures working indoors and out.  This employee will be required to demonstrate continued knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and requirements.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear.  Standing/walking 20%, Sitting 80%.  Ability to frequently lift and carry 50 lbs. for short distances.

MINIMUM SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to pass a physical compliant to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Standards
  • Have acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Have a verifiable work history and references
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to drive up to 8 hours per day with frequent stops
  • Competent oral and written communication skills
  • Competent addition and subtraction math skills
  • Competent literacy skills in order to read shipping and BOL information

ADDITIONAL SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Customer service experience
  • Minimum 3 years of CDL-A driving experience
