JOB TITLE:  Senior Reservoir Geophysicist

Sinopec Tech Houston research center focuses on research and development of seismic inversion and reservoir characterization in geophysics and petrophysics. We are seeking a Senior Reservoir Geophysicist to join our research team. This role involves detailed reservoir characterization using advanced technology platform and commercial software to deliver petrophysics and geophysical analyses that support characterization projects, software platform evaluation and well planning and designing.  The candidate should have a proven track record in the oil and gas industry and solid experience in delivering reservoir delineation projects using Hampson-Russell software.  The candidate must be capable of working along and with a team to deliver timely and reliably solution and projects for geophysical reservoir problems. Research & Development experience with coding development is optional but not necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Handle and carry out research project with client, which includes, but not limited to, well log data analysis and QC, seismic modeling for calibrating seismic data, seismic data conditioning processing, horizon picking, Attribute analyses, integration of petrophysics, rock physics property and appropriate seismic attributes
  • Apply best practices to QC client seismic data, propose workflow for seismic QC and seismic inversion. Carry out pre-stack/post-stack seismic inversion to generate seismically driven reservoir property distribution volume, seismic inversion products and rock property integration analysis and interpretation.
  •  Evaluate petrophysical and geophysical and geological data to map prospective areas/formations to look for upside potential for future field development.
  • Deliver timely and reliably project in alignment with technology management team.
  • Collaborates well with other team members.
  • Promotes the company health, safety and environmental policies, procedures, regulations and objectives.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Hands-on experience using advanced geophysical software; Hand-on experience of using Hampson-Russel software is a must. Experience with Jason Geoscience, dGB, etc. is plus.
  • Good understanding of seismic data acquisition and processing and well log data analysis. Strong technical skills and knowledge in seismic AVO inversion. Mentoring of junior staff and transferring of knowledge.
  • Familiar with Linux and high-performance computing systems.
  • Ability to present technical topics to peers and management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English, and teamwork skills, accomplishment of high quality and high standard work.
  • Ability to handle a variety of confidential IP, relating to the company.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, LICENSES and EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have a Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree in Geology, Geophysics, and Applied Geophysics or related Geophysical discipline; from an accredited school.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of solid experience as a Geophysicist Reservoir specialist with at least 4 years focusing on advanced geophysical analyses for reservoir characterization.
  • Some domestic and international travel will be required (<15 % per year).
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
