Position Title: Manager, Inventory Planning & Purchasing

To plan and acquire inventory required to support the maintenance operations of Sky Regional, ensuring cost effective acquisition and an inventory plan is in place, managing inventory levels and identifying and actioning any inventory surplus.

Oversee all operational activities for materials required to support the maintenance operations, proactively planning inventory requirements and reviewing and approving purchases and/or inventory disposition.  Responsible for the inventory budget and actuals, ensuring proper valuation and transactions are completed
  • Overall responsibility parts inventory. This includes valuation, quantity, of both the required parts to meet service levels for maintenance as well as identification and disposition of , obsolete,, slow moving and stagnant inventory.
  • Develop and maintain the inventory plan for all parts in all bases for heavy and line maintenance
  • Develop appropriate min/max stocking levels and ensure all purchases are in adherence to the plan
  • Continually review inventory holdings to determine methods to improve inventory turnover; define and execute on inventory optimization projects
  • Develop budget for inventory levels and useage. Advise Finance of issues and concerns as they arise.
  • Build data and analyses to identify usage patterns to improve inventory plan, considering lead time and operational data (e.g. life limited parts, MEL items, shelf life items)
  • Build inventory deployment plan to support multiple bases and ensure processes are in place to monitor and reallocate
  • Monitor parts receiving to ensure inventory levels are accurate.
  • Oversee all order placement, purchase approvals and follow-up for purchases of parts and services, including any exchange orders, for delivery to commitment dates, lead time adherence and cost. Monitor open orders and work to close them in timely manner.
  • Ensure any receiving discrepancies are addressed and invoices to suppliers can be paid in a timely manner, working with Finance to ensure any payment discounts can be applied.
  • Source parts in a cost-effective manner, looking for alternate suppliers and/or methods to lower acquisition cost, including all shipping costs.
  • Work with any suppliers of programs/tools that can help improve part availability and lower overall cost and develop operational processes to support the programs/tools.
  • Meet periodically with key suppliers to provide feedback to improve service.
  • Ensure all sources of parts to ensure they are on the Sky Regional Approved Vendor List (AVL); work with quality to obtain information to set them up and maintain the AVL
  • Establish processes and policies for all departmental activities, covering both day-to-day purchases as well as AOG and off-shift purchases done by the Inventory Control Technicians; maintain documentation and ensure all activities performed are in compliance with Sky Regional’s regulatory requirements (e.g. MPMs, DPDs)
  • Ensure all departmental transactions are properly logged in TRAX and in compliance with documented procedures;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma
  • Relevant supply chain designation, inventory designation or other procurement training is an asset.

  • Minimum 10-years aviation related experience in purchasing, inventory planning, supply chain, and/or maintenance, with at least 3 years with purchasing and/or inventory management experience
  • 3-5 years experience managing / leading teams
  • Strong negotiation skills are required
  • Must be organized and have the ability to multi-task
  • Structured, analytical, process-driven and financial acumen
  • Work well in a high-stress environment
  • Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment
  • Successful Completion of Background Check required to attain and maintain a Transport Canada Clearance (RAIC).
