PRIMARY FOCUS/ MANDATE:

Ensure all processes and procedures are maintained by the crew planning department. Responsible to ensure crews are scheduled legally, efficiently and cost-effectively.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Oversee the crew planning department processes and procedures and responsible for the daily oversight and supervision of the crew planners.

Headcount Oversight
  • Ensure the manpower plan is updated in a timely manner allowing enough time for hire/cancel reactions to be made.
  • Ensure constant monitoring to ensure work life balance of crew members is maintained as much as possible.
  • Responsible for making hire recommendations to both the Inflight and Flight Operations departments in coordination with Finance and HR.
Pairing Building
  • Build pairings with the seasonal schedule received from Air Canada every six months to ensure the best efficiency and relay to Air Canada any flight time adjustments that might increase schedule productivity.
  • Ensure all available data is available to properly allocate flying and reserve blocks – this includes seasonal adjustments, trends in sickness, network complexity and all internal metrics.
Schedule Build Oversight
  • Work with AD OPT on enhancements to bidding options and the testing of any upgrades.
  • Ensure all documentation for crew member bidding is accurate and up to date on the employee website.
  • Oversee communication with crew members and manage department response to inquiries and/or complaints.
Merlot
  • Investigate any issues with the platform as a result of crew planning usage.
  • Work with IT on upgrades and fixes.
  • Directly responsible for crew build, crew roster and ensuring all documentation is up to date for the crew planners.
Supervision
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the crew planners.
  • Provide feedback, coaching, mentorship and oversight on the daily operations of the crew planning team.
  • Liaise closely with the Senior Manager, Crew Planning and Crew Scheduling on any performance issues.
Other
  • Other duties as assigned to support the operation.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in aviation preferred

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 1 year experience in crew planning
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with an airline
