The Project Manager is responsible for planning, scheduling, assisting with estimating and maintaining documentation on assigned projects. The Project Manager will work in concert with the General Manager, Operations Manager, Project Management team, Estimating department, Field Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent, and administrative support staff to define the requirements for each project. The Project Manager shall maintain professional relationships with client contacts in order to assure their satisfaction with work performed. This position requires an individual who is a team player with strong inter-personal and organizational skills, effective attention to detail skills, the ability to problem solve, juggle multiple projects and adjust work accordingly to adapt to tight deadlines.  This position requires a continual “Can Do” attitude and displays a professional image. Extensive budgetary and administrative experience required preferably in the construction or service industry.  Also, answers non-routine correspondence and assembles highly confidential and sensitive information.

Duties and Responsibilities – Essential Functions

  1. Plan, staff, organize, direct and control activities relating to projects performed by Starr Electric Company field personnel in the assigned area in a safe and efficient manner
  2. Plans, organizes, and schedules activities relating to management of projects including budgeting, control of purchasing, profit projection, change order processing, scheduling with field and customer personnel, and document control.
  3. Manage the overall activities relating to a clients work performed by Starr Electric Company including coordinating engineering efforts, estimating costs, obtaining proper permits, acquiring materials, staffing work, performing quality control inspections and closing out documentation and billings in a safe and efficient manner
  4. Insure that all applicable safety requirements and housekeeping issues are maintained to the highest possible standards
  5. Routinely meet with appropriate parties to verify that work is being performed in a productive manner and meets the requirements of the clients
  6. Insure that proper and accurate documentation is being maintained on each project, including time keeping, material ordered, safety records, tool records, and changes of scope and communicate this information on a timely basis to the appropriate authority
  7. Attend pre-bid meetings, job-planning meetings, job progress meetings and provide estimates for projects as required
  8. Actively engage in the recruitment and development of high quality employees to insure a competent and adequate workforce
  9. Actively engage and/or assist in the marketing efforts of Starr Electric Company as deemed necessary to further the goals of the Company
  10. Responsibly determine the needs for additional resources and present data to support those needs to the appropriate authority   
  11. Maintain relationships with others in the organization so as to provide for a positive work climate.
  12. Administer directives as assigned
  13. Manage work order system for performing small projects as assigned.
  14. Provides valuable skills and experience to help create and produce project proposal books and project presentation information for project interviews.
  15. Maintains positive relationships with others in the organization by instilling an upbeat work climate.
  16. Travel to jobsites and other SEC offices or other locations to perform functions.
  17. May be assigned to work on site fulltime as required
  18. Assume other duties as directed by appropriate authorities

Job Specifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
 
  1. Proficient in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  2. Proficient in applicable project scheduling software (Microsoft Project, CONEST, etc.).
  3. Skilled at creating, filing, maintaining, and disposition of personnel and company records.
4.   Proficient in writing internal and external correspondence. 
5.  Ability to focus, organize, and prioritize essential functions of this job in order to meet deadlines. 
6.  Ability to foster and maintain teamwork skills.
7.  Demonstrates  proficient and professional communication skills.
8.  Able to adjust and be flexible to the sudden demands. 

Starr Electric is a business casual working environment.  Normal office hours are 8am – 5pm but can be somewhat flexible. 

Education, Experience, and/or Prerequisites Required:
 
  1. Requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, Business Management, or equivalent work experience
  2. Five (5) years operational experience in project management, with at least two (2) years managing commercial electrical work
