Location: Wichita, Kansas
The Position:
The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KansasCOM), one of the nation’s newest medical schools, located in downtown Wichita, Kansas, invites applications for a faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Qualified applicants with experience and dedication to teaching anatomy to medical students are sought for an open rank faculty position. This position has no associated clinical duties, and KansasCOM can be flexible regarding appointment (full-time or part-time) for an applicant with demonstrated excellence and commitment to teaching anatomy.
This position will function as a member of a collaborative educational team that develops and delivers content across an integrated, educational program. The anatomical sciences program in the first two years is non-cadaveric, using clinical imaging, technology, models and plastinated specimen. The fourth year provides opportunities for a cadaveric dissection elective. Primary responsibilities will involve teaching medical students through the integrated, systems-based curriculum of the first and second academic years, and will involve the development of discipline-based, collaboratively designed, and highly integrated curricular elements. A demonstrated ability to work within a team of medical educators from basic science and clinical disciplines to develop instructional materials and presentations is a must. Additional teaching and mentoring responsibilities may exist in the third and fourth years and will focus on the application of foundational science knowledge to senior medical students seeking advanced experience.
Whereas teaching is the primary focus, service, scholarship and research are fundamental elements of a faculty role. Service to the College and the community is an essential function of the position, including committee service, faculty development, student mentoring/advising, interviewing prospective students, and community outreach. The College is strengthening its scholarly activity involvement, broadly defined as including basic science (bench), translational, clinical, educational, public health/epidemiologic, or other scholarly endeavors.
To Apply:
Confidential review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled; parties who apply by March 2, 2025, will be given first consideration. Please submit your letter of application outlining your interest/suitability for this position; a curriculum vitae; and a statement of teaching philosophy.
Preference that applicant be qualified to work in the United States without sponsorship, however, the College will consider immigration sponsorship for highly qualified candidates.
