Straughan is currently seeking a Mid-Level Sustainability Specialist to join our Sustainable Design group in the Columbia, MD office. The ideal candidate should have an interest in and understanding of current environmental issues and a shared vision for sustainability.

  • Provide general sustainability and sustainable design consulting services
  • Prepare and coordinate LEED documentation and facilitate the LEED certification process
  • Complete site/water/energy/daylight investigations for LEED compliance
  • Manage project elements including scheduling, tracking milestones, and monthly project manager reports
  • Plan and lead meetings and visit construction sites
  • Analyze design and construction drawings and specifications for green building requirements
  • Provide research support on net zero, carbon neutral, high performance building design and construction strategies and technologies
  • Document, track, and report on progress for internal green key performance indicators
  • Support proposal development and client coordination

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in architectural, engineering, scientific, or related field
  • 4+ years experience in sustainability consulting, or other related experience in the consulting industry
  • LEED AP BD+C credential or other LEED AP specialty credential
  • Experience in sustainability projects and can show verified experience facilitating and managing the LEED certification process, including LEED v4 projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively

Highly Desired
  • Additional sustainability credentials (Green Globes, WELL, Living Futures)
  • Experience with the federal Guiding Principles program
  • An understanding of carbon management in the built environment
  • Passion for sustainability and desire to attend seminars, workshops, and conferences to stay up to date on innovative industry changes
  • Proficiency at report development and writing
  • Active involvement in professional organizations
  • Project management experience

Software Experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite (including intermediate level in excel) required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit desired
  • Proficiency with EC3 Tool or other embodied carbon management tools desired
