Straughan is currently seeking an Environmental Planner to support an array of upcoming projects in our Planning Department including assisting existing clients with program management efforts. This is a full-time opportunity that would require some in-office work at a client site, located in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing are a must. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated and have the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, team environment.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Geology, Engineering, Communications, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis, complete field investigations, and document findings clearly and effectively
  • Basic knowledge of key environmental regulations and policies
  • Ability to prepare reports to support National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) documents and other Planning Documents and Environmental Resource Inventories
  • Working knowledge of MS Office computer software
  • Well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; ability to create effective written reports and documentation

Qualifications (Preferred)
The following qualifications are preferred: 
  • Experience with consulting, including analysis, writing, client support, and presentation.
  • Prior experience in researching and writing sections of Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements including purpose & need statements, alternatives analysis, agency coordination letters, cumulative impacts analyses, Section 4(f) documentation, environmental justice analysis, and/or public outreach documentation. 
  • Experience with historical/cultural resources, natural resources studies, noise analysis, stormwater management.
  • Experience in coordinating community outreach activities in connection with infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Experience with data creation, editing, and management in an ArcMap environment.
  • Experience using the ArcGIS toolbox and performing basic geoprocessing functions (i.e clip, buffer, spatial join, and intersect)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
