Job Description

Trusted Space is seeking a Tactical Communications Mission Engineering Lead (Chief Systems Engineer) to support Program Integration in support of our Government Customer.

As the Tactical Communications Mission Engineering Lead, you will be in a customer-facing position, serving as a working lead who interacts directly with our Government Customer leadership on all issues in their purview, assists with planning, resourcing and prioritization of tasks and efforts, providing clear and effective communication of Government personnel. You will also provide expert guidance, recommendations and technical leadership in the development, integration, and testing of interfaces for the Transport Layer of our Government Customer's PWSA.


Responsibilities include:
  • Guide the engineering and technical efforts for Link 16 and TACSATCOM systems, focusing on the development, integration, and testing of narrowband and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band SATCOM solutions.
  • Conduct systems engineering and integration activities to address system performance, interoperability, and compliance with MIL-STD-6016, MIL-STD-3011, STANAG 5602, and other standards.
  • Utilize advanced tools and methodologies to perform system-level testing, trade studies, and evaluations of JTIDS, MIDS, TDMA, and other tactical data link components.
  • Apply knowledge of UFO, MUOS, and other TACSATCOM systems to design, optimize, and deliver advanced satellite communication capabilities.
  • Oversee systems engineering activities, including requirements engineering, verification, and validation, ensuring alignment with mission objectives.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICD) to enable seamless system interoperability.
  • Conduct trade studies and technical analyses to support decision-making and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee system testing and evaluation to ensure mission readiness and operational effectiveness.
  • Guide cross-functional teams, coordinating efforts among engineers, operators, and stakeholders.
 Qualifications
  • Bachelors and 18+ years experience, Masters and 16+ years experience, or PhD and 15+ years experience.
  • 10 years of total professional experience and 5 years of technical experience in Link 16 tactical data link systems engineering, TACSATCOM systems engineering, IBS systems engineering, and/or space-based RF tactical communications focused on development, integration, and testing.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, verification, validation, and system integration.
  • Strong analytical skills to perform trade studies and system evaluations.
  • Clear communicator with strong technical writing skills.
  • Deep understanding of narrowband and UHF SATCOM systems, including systems like UFO, MUOS, and legacy tactical communication architectures.
  • Proficient in MIL-STD-188-181/182/183, MIL-STD-188-164, MIL-STD-188-186, STANAG 4721, and other applicable SATCOM waveform and interface standards.
  • Experience integrating TACSATCOM terminals and modems (e.g., WGS-capable, MUOS-capable radios) with space and ground segment systems.
  • Expertise in Link 16 and tactical data link interoperability, particularly with MIL-STD-6016, MIL-STD-3011, and STANAG 5516/5602.
  • Background in RF systems engineering, including link budget analysis, waveform compatibility, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Experience with satellite bus and payload integration, including electrical interface design, subsystem verification, and power/data routing

Security Clearance
This position requires the candidate to have an active TS/SCI security clearance

Salary Range: The salary range for this role is $185,000-$235,000.
