Tangent Technologies is the leading manufacturer of recycled plastic lumber in the United States and the fastest growing company in the industry.  We are seeking highly talented, result driven individuals to join our high caliber Machine Shop.

The basic function of the machinist helper is to fabricate, with little supervision, functional parts to meet the needs of outside client or internal company requirements. To work with the machinists in various capacities, to include sawing of raw materials and operating production equipment.

Reporting to this position: None

  • Review manufacturing drawings, blue prints, and specifications to assist planning the fabrication process. (1%)
  • Review/plan the sequence of steps to follow to produce the item as needed.
    • Work directly with project manager(s) or machinist to determine most logical and cost effective methods to fabricate items to meet part requirements. (2%)
  • Weld materials such as metal, steel, and titanium (5%)
  • Operate welding machine that feeds wire to bond materials (5%)
  • Select and set up welding equipment (10%)
  • Ensure welds meet standards and specifications (5%)
  • Verify accuracy of the finished item compared to part specifications (5%)
  • Perform production machining operations according to specifications. (10%)
  • Operate vertical and horizontal band saws (40%)
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
  • Verify accuracy of the finished item compared to part specifications
  • Operate various CNC machinery as required (10%)
  • Maintain steel rack raw material inventory levels in quantities as needed. (2%)
  • Work safely, following legislated, and Bedford Technology, safety rules and practices.
  • Follow the Policies and Procedures of the company.
  • Input accurate time keeping and production records
  • Perform any other task or work assignment that may be delegated from time to time by a supervisor.  (10%)
Education        Required: Minimum a graduate of vocational or trade school with degree or certificate in a related field of study. 
Experience      A minimum of 3 - 5 years in maintenance position preferably in a manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.  Welding experience.-MIG, TIG, stick.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Familiar with all aspects of production CNC machining.
  • Proficiency in safe and proper operation of the following equipment: production CNC equipment, drill press, vertical and horizontal saws.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, setting up tooling or jigs, and use of various grinders and hand tools.
  • Welding
  • Focused at work and possess ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be willing and capable of learning industry standard Machine Shop Practices and also be capable of quickly adapting to various customer standards.
  • Sitting, walking, standing, and bending.  Standing, stooping and bending to inspect equipment within the machine shop and to inspect quality details.  Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to perform the necessary mathematical computations to meet project requirements. 
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with management.

Will have some exposure to cold, hot, dirty, noisy and congested conditions in a production plant environment.  Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye protection, hearing protection, and gloves.
